“Right to College” is a video describing the challenges facing Karoline, Christine, and Enoch. They are seniors at Brooklyn high schools determined to get their classmates to attend college, even as they struggle with the process themselves. They are working as college counselors with the support of CARA -College Access: Research & Action, a CUNY-affiliated center, which trains low-income students as Youth Leaders to assist their peers through the college application process. The video was produced by Juliane Dressner, Edwin Martinez and Jesse Hicks.
Karoline, Christine, and Enoch became the protagonists of “Personal Statement,” a feature-length documentary that follows them through their senior year and into college. They struggle with, but refuse to succumb to the barriers that prevent so many low-income students from attending college.
